Energy-Investment Decision-Making for Industry: Quantitative and Qualitative Risks Integrated Analysis

Industrial SMEs may take the decision to invest in energy efficient equipment reduce costs by replacing or upgrading their obsolete due external socio-political and legislative pressures. When equipment, it be beneficial consider adoption of new strategies rising from ongoing transition support green transformation decarbonisation. To face this energy-investment decision-making problem, a set different economic environmental criteria have evaluated together with associated risks. Although problems been treated literature, incorporation both quantitative qualitative risks for has not studied yet. In paper, research gap is addressed, creating framework that considers non-risk into problems. Both types are according probability impact on company’s objectives and, additionally risks, fuzzy inference system employed account judgmental subjectivity. All incorporated single cost–benefit analysis function, which optimised along assets’ lifetime reach best long-term investment decisions. The proposed methodology applied specific industrial SME as case study, showing benefits considering these problem. Nonetheless, expandable minor changes other entities facing challenge or, well, tangible assets.
